Hi, I’m Bernie, a registered psychologist and health psychology registrar with over 15 years of experience across clinical, research, and educational roles. I currently serve as the Principal Psychologist at Health Psychology and Counselling Care, where I offer compassionate, respectful, and a humanising approach when working with clients. My passion for helping individuals navigate the connection between mental and physical health has been a driving force throughout my career, and I am committed to empowering my clients to enhance their well-being.
Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience working with clients facing a range of challenges, from managing chronic health conditions to coping with major life transitions. I see myself as a fellow journey-woman, supporting you in your health journey as we chart a way forward towards better quality of life while traversing many challenges. I utilize a range of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), trauma-informed approaches including Polyvagal theory, grief and loss, systemic considerations, and interpersonal therapies. I am also a member of the Australasian Sleep Association and have interests in supporting clients to improve their sleep quality. Addressing sleep is an important bio-physiological consideration in so many comorbid physical and mental health conditions. Improving sleep helps improve quality of life.
My journey in health psychology is deeply rooted in a personal commitment to bridging the gap between mental and physical health. I firmly believe that addressing the psychological impact of physical conditions is key to achieving improvements in well-being. Through my practice and this platform, I am dedicated to spreading awareness of health psychology’s power to transform lives. I aim to continue supporting individuals through life’s challenging moments, while promoting a greater understanding of the vital role mental health plays in overall health and healing.
